THE
FORGOTTEN SCROLL FANZINE
Beyond Fallen is a new band formed by veteran musicians of the Pennsylvania metal scene. And a very promising one too! Having won a “ Battle of the Bands” contest and with several live shows throughout the state, they have established a fine name within the local underground scene. This cd is their first self financed recording effort, a fine sample of new age power metal, aggressive but yet METAL as hell. No hardcore or nu crap, just heavy tunes in the vein of Overkill and late Forte. Joe Karavis' voice (a real veteran of the underground and winner of 5 “ Battle of the Bands” contests!!!) is similar to that of Joe Comeau, powerful but yet melodic. The guitar work is quite heavy. Razor sharp riffs accompanied by a grinding rhythm section that makes you wanna headbang. Lots of anvil pounding from these five guys. The cd contains 4 songs with the closing tune “The Traveler” being the best among equals. A smashing opus that kicks off with some acoustic guitar only to burst into a metal crescendo. The band is currently looking for a record deal and I hope they will get one soon. With fine material like that, it's a matter of time before someone offers them a worthy contract. Visit the band's website for further info or cd orders. review

METAL TO INFINITY Country: Belgium Beyond Fallen is an American five piece Power Metal band, started back in 2001. Guitar player Steve Jasuilewicz's intention was to set up a real Metal unity so he started looking out for some other musicians. Steve's good friend Jamey Wilczewski joined his mate shortly after. He was ready to hit the drums loud and hard as can be. Several auditions actually led to nothing at all which means, they didn't found the right guys for playing Metal the way they had in mind themselves. After placing an ad, a lead guitarist / backing vocalist named Mike Johnson fulfilling the ranks. So far so good, left to found was a bassist and ofcourse a singer. Ex-Unleashed Power / Anger Reign vocalist Joe Karavis joined the band as well as bass player Chuck Donahue did after a while. Line up was completed and there they go with no holding back, only full force ahead and serving a strongful type of Metal was their main goal to achieve. Heading their way to the Scranton's Sound Investment Studios in 2003 for the recordings of a debut, self titled and independent 4 track EP. Four songs, only True US Power Metal maniacs allowed! First song called "A Line In The Sand" and hits me in the face as soon as the intro was gone. Joe's voice is original, mean as hell and pretty rough. Put a singer like Joe in a band and great results are assured! Both guitar players caughts my attention right from the start. These guys have plenty of power and energy in their mights to offers a beatiful way of using the electric guitars with a lot of talent. Bass lines and drum sections in perfect harmony, well Beyond Fallen is more than just a regular Metal band. Second song in line entitled "Dim Vertical Sun" is about the future and delivers the same qualities as the previous song, even with more melody. Next "Bomb InsideYour Head" is my personal fave of the entire EP for sure. Awesome Power Metal, sometimes near to Thrash like we used to know from many Bay Area, 80s bands. Listen up to the guitar duties, both riffings and solo's are so fantastic in every way and allow me to say that only real good musicians can do this. Check out this song, bang your head and let your adrenaline starts to flow. Last track called " The Traveller" starts very easy with clean tuned guitars before hell breaks loose and changes into a very attractive Metal song influenced by bands straight out of the Classic Metal movements. Beyond Fallen has potential, no doubt about that. Looking for True Metal that assault from the ears, this is what you need with satisfaction guaranteed! You can order the EP via the band's website at: www.beyondfallen.com MY POINTS: 91 / 100 review

METAL RULES Country: Germany Thank goodness, once again an album raging off the speakers. Please fasten your seat-belts when listening to this one in adequate volume. Four brilliant mid-paced US Power Metal missiles are fired here within the sadly very short playing-time. Joe Karavis' powerful and aggressive vocals perfectly fit the melodical but consequently cracking riffs of the two axemen Mike Johnson and Steve Jasuilewicz. The totally untrendy compositions partly remind me of elder Overkill or Iced Earth. You can feel the band's devotion and joy playing this kind of stuff. The five band members (completed by Chuck Dunahue on bass and Jamey Wilczewski on drums) perfectly harmonize with each other. The compositions are really excellently forged Steel. review

NEPA today Country: United States Beyond Fallen - A pure dose of NEPA Metal Mark
Uricheck
NORTHEASTERN, Pa. - When you think about the local music scene, you may think of acoustic based pop, Top 40 covers, or '90's sounding guitar driven rock. Well, from now on, you can think of heavy metal as well. That's right, metal. Not the watered down MTV-lite variety either, but pure grab you by the throat, bone shattering, heavy metal. In Beyond Fallen, local metal aficionados finally have something they can hang their hat on. Beyond Fallen's story begins in 2001, when rhythm guitarist Steve Jasuilewicz started what he envisioned as his ideal metal band. First to join the ranks was drummer Jamey Wilczewski, a long time friend of Steve's. The pair would audition several people to fill the remaining vacancies, but after much frustration, they didn't find anyone that would really work out. That is, until guitarist Mike Johnson answered an ad the band had placed. Johnson's skills impressed the band, but about this time the guys lost their rehearsal space. Mike, Jamey, and Steve would hang tight for two months while they found some new space. From there, Beyond Fallen would really start to come into their own. Bassist Chuck Donahue filed in next, happy for a chance to play real metal with the band. Frontman Joe Karavis completed the lineup, and a powerful force to be reckoned with was born. Joe was a veteran of the local metal band Anger Reign, and regional band Unleashed Power. His experience was an asset, and Beyond Fallen meshed into a formidable metal machine. The band entered Scranton's Sound Investment Studios in 2003 to record what would be their debut CD. The finished product was to become four of the heaviest tracks any local band has laid down in a long time. The CD is available now at the band's shows and through it's web site. Be warned, this disc just might send your CD player into meltdown. Beyond Fallen's self-titled debut CD kicks off with a track called A Line In The Sand. This track is absolutely brutal, with an intro reminiscent of classic Slayer. This song's theme of Middle Eastern conflict hits home and is certainly timely. Joe Karavis' voice is strong and immediately pushes to the forefront of the band's music. Next is Dim Vertical Sun, a song the band says is about the future of our world, and the damage we've done to it. This track is equally as powerful as the preceding, with a solid Judas Priest-like rocking groove. Like Priest, Beyond Fallen can flawlessly belt out a twin guitar lead like nobody's business. The third of the four tracks on the CD is Bomb Inside your Head, a slam to the greed of the corporate world. This one's a killer. The break-neck tempo is an adrenaline rush similar to the work of metal giants Iced Earth. Beyond Fallen proves they can thrash with the best of 'em, and the blazing fretwork on this song alone is a testament to the talent this band possesses. Contrary to what many people will tell you, real heavy metal takes adept musical skill. Closing the CD is The Traveler, a song about leaving the doldrums of our everyday life behind. This one begins with some pristine, clean sounding guitar before smashing into a feverish pace and refusing to let up. Amazingly, by the end of the CD, Beyond Fallen had invoked the sounds of most of the classic metal masters like Iron Maiden and newer heavies like Hammerfall, while giving the music their own undeniable stamp. Quite an accomplishment, these guys are the real deal. Live, Beyond Fallen is mowing down audiences with a blend of originals and new and classic metal covers. The band won the 2004 Keystone College Battle of the Bands, and performs regularly at The Corner Pocket Lounge at Arena Billiards in Moosic. Visit the band's official site at www.beyondfallen.com for show info, to order CD's, merchandise, and additional info. To quote a line from Judas Priest: "Pounding the world, like a battering ram." That's the feeling you'll get from Beyond Fallen. Plug in to the metal mayhem. review

UROTSUKIDOJI'S PAD Country: Canada I
love getting CDs like this one, a solid disc from a band that has an obvious
respect for the old days. From the album cover I was not sure what to expect,
maybe some really extreme stuff, or some sort of Metalcore, but nope, these
guys are all about an older brand of Metal. This Pennsylvania based band
mixes classic Metal, with some early mid-paced Thrash elements, and a good
dose of NWOBHM. The disc won’t win any "CD of the year" awards, but it
will put a smile across your face, and make you think of simpler times.
You'll be transported back to an era when we all had frayed jean jackets
adorned with the patches of our favourite bands, and when no one had ever
heard of Metalcore, Nu-Metal, Black-Metal, etc. The production on these
four songs is somewhat raw, but it works in their favour, and gives them
a street-level vibe. I mean let's face it, when someone like Iron Maiden
puts out an album of classic sounding Heavy Metal, it always sounds like
an album put out by Champaign-swilling millionaires, not by an underground,
beer-chugging band. It's nice to hear some edge in this type of music again.
For more info, the band can be found at the cryptic web address of beyondfallen.com.

BRAVE WORDS & BLOODY KNUCKLES Country: Canada A line in the sand has Iron Maiden written all over it. Vocalist Joe Karavis belts out lyrics about Middle East conflict in fine Dickinson form while the band delivers an impassioned twin guitar attack, topped off by a galloping rhythm section. Beyond Fallen are musical storytellers, traveling down the same path as Iced Earth and Dream Theater.........6.5 |
